Probably Park Slope's most upscale general housewares store, Tarzian West packs an enormous amount of stuff into a very small, cramped space. Many of the wares are of reasonably high quality and they're priced to reflect both that and their relative scarcity in the area. But if you need a Brita filter, a La Creuset skillet or an imported vegetable brush, this is probably your best bet.

The attraction of Tarzian West (besides the curb appeal of brightly colored bowls and pot holders in the window) is the collection of artistic, handy pieces that make perfect gifts. There are more than 20,000 items to choose from, so leaving the small store empty-handed is rare. Retro is the name of their game, with cute polka-dot-patterned dish towels available and Õ50s clocks displayed on the walls. Throughout October, bring in any old teakettle to recycle and get a new Chantal one at 20 percent off, with proceeds going to a local charity.
This store is small and jam-packed but navigable. Top-of-the-liners include All-Clad cookware, Wusthof knives, retro Waring blenders, and Cuisinart electric ice-cream-makers. Woven hampers and storage bins, too.

• I love walking around this store. They have everything that I imagine when it comes to cookware. Tons of steel cookware, Le Creuset, aprons, whisks, etc etc.
• It's all quality, which I like, so I know where I can get my Le Creuset Dutch ovens last minute. There are lots of kitchen gadgets, Riedel glasses, candles, etc. It's like a high quality Bed, Bath and Beyond squished into a large studio with high ceilings. Cute mugs and aprons here, too.
• Like a horse that knows its way back home, if I don't force my feet, then after a Saturday morning of shopping at the Farmer's Market at Grand Army Plaza, I inevitably end up at Tarzian. It's not that I need anything in particular: I cook all the time, so by now I have almost anything that any casual home cook might need. It's not that I have a large kitchen that's in need of more decoration: after all, its NY-size can only allow so many kitchen gadgets, no matter how cute. It's not that I love uncomfortably elbowing past other customers in the narrow rows between packed shelves, inevitably causing some item to fall onto the floor with a loud bang. It's just... I really can't help it. But the first step in dealing with a problem is admitting you have one, right? Hi! My name is Anna and I'm addicted to shopping at Tarzian. The end.

• The store carries many unusual type of items, and the selection is vast, with prices that are more than fair. It is almost that they anticipate your needs, and stock it. The staff is friendly and helpful as well, and they are sure to have whatever item you need, and its all under one roof, saving you time and money.
• They have a lot of modern and retro stuff, including some great clocks that many hip 20-somethings would love to have in their apartments. This store proves that it can be cool to go shopping for stuff for your kitchen and bathroom.
f you are looking to upgrade your kitchen and/or bath with some new and quality pieces, this is a store to head to. They have name and known brands, a wide range of colors, and lots of new styles to experiment with - be it vintage, contemporary, deco or just timeless classic. Prices are fairmarket, but they do have a wide selection to choose from. They also carry an interesting section of seasonal items, if you want to invest in a few, like thanksgiving or Halloween - it's fun, and you can go as crazy or as limited as you want.
• Tarzian West is a fun little store full of modern home furnishings that make great gifts. It's a small store, but they pack in a variety of things like colorful plastic cups, teapots, shower curtains, fun bathroom items, and novelty magnets and other small and random gift items. They have things that are functional, things that are decorative/fun, and things that are both. I can't think of any other place in the area to get affordable, modern home furnishings and gifts--there are tons of new stores on Fifth Avenue, but those tend to be a lot more fancy and expensive

• I LOVE THIS STORE. Loaded with impulse-buys that are so cute I simply MUST have them (octopus scrub-brush, anyone?), this place has got your cute kitchen needs covered. I shopped here for a friend's bridal shower, and it was difficult to choose -- there was so much cuteness! I also bought a soft lunchbox here and some ice pack thingys that keep my lunch nice and cold. They have loads of kitchen gadgetry. (The kinds of things you never knew you needed... until NOW.)
They have good sales, too!
• This place really packs it in, so if you are carrying a large bag or pushing a stroller, forget it! (You will knock something over) I am biased in my love for Tarzian West because I once had a $200 gift certificate (thank you, significant other!) and felt like a kid in a candy store, except I was an adult in a kitchen store! I have accumulated aprons, pink spatula, mini whisk (it's adorable!), cookie rack, white cheddar cheese powder, drink shaker, pretty napkins I would never buy normally, fabric place mats (which I sewed into tote bags!), and a magnetic grocery list. Yes, I am a modern-day Martha Stewart...
Tiny tiny place but they seem to have it all and I am all about supporting the locals’ vs. the big ol’ mean chains. They have the same upscale goods as the chains so I spend here since I always find what I need. All they have to do is make the store bigger and we are talking five stars.
• Brooklyn's answer to Williams Sonoma. In about 400 square feet.

Small, cramped and chock-full of kitchenware, Tarzian West if your go-to spot for aprons, pink spatulas, bright blue colanders, and all those pretty things that should be around as you embark on a pie-making journey.

I never noticed this store much when I was younger, even though it was always there--I'm not sure whether it's because I wasn't interested in housewares then or because the stuff they have now is cooler, or both. Anyway, despite being fairly small, this store packs in a variety of nice things for the home, from silverware to tea kettles to shower curtains to interesting glasses to little gooey decorations that you can stick on your bathtub. The stuff tends to be more modern than traditional, and a lot of the items would make great gifts for younger people decorating their apartments.

This place has the most innovative houseware I have ever seen. From Sippy cups to mugs; each item has something about them that makes you say to yourself "that's cool" or "I wonder how they thought of that." Of course they also have your everyday pots and pans but it's the other kitchen utensils that make this shop stand out from the rest. Creativity sells and this store has tons of creativity.
They have good sales, too!

A resourceful and helpful kitchen and cookware shop in Park Slope.
What's great:
A neighborhood resource for over 30 years, every inch of this store is filled with cookware, bakeware, gadgets, kitchen tools, small appliances and almost any item you'd want for yourself or a gift for another home cook. They carry top popular brands including OXO, All Clad, Le Creuset, Zyliss, Wusthof knives and Emile Henry ceramic bakeware. They have a small selection of current and classic cookbooks. Prices are very competitive and service is old-fashioned in the best sense making this the kind of store where you finally buy what you want after doing product research on the web.
What to know:
If they don't carry something, they'll try to get it for you. They also sell non-kitchen household items like shower curtains, picture frames, and gift items. The store is associated with Tarzian Hardware located across the street.
